At least three youth have been briefly detained over employment dispute in Northern Barh el Ghazal.
They are now undergoing investigations in Majook-Yith-Thiou border Point on the cause of the shutdown of the offices of the revenue offices following a tension that flared over deployment of their staff at the State Revenue Authority headquarter in Aweil town.
One of the youths, who preferred to be called as John, a relative of those staff members accused said the detained youths included key masterminds.
“The security operatives with those of organized forces have taken away those of Mating Lual Hou, Yai Deng Koc and Garang Akot and these figures have been accused of having drafted a list of staff members of Revenue workers whose names have been missing out in the new deployment “said the relative.
“This morning, they were taken to the Municipal office for an interrogation and eventually they whisked them away to the police headquarters for further investigations,” he added.
John emphasized that the accused youth alleged that the new deployed staff whose names emerged on Sunday evening does not reflect fairness as those appointed only emerged from other counties such as Aweil North, west and center counties, whose jurisdictions don’t fall under the municipal council.
While reaching out to the officials in the Municipal council, an official said they had contacted the
state officials over the matter but they are asked to relinquish the protest and act lawfully.
“We have told them yesterday evening to come down to us and explain their position, all they said is that those who have been confirmed were those who have not been on the list of the Revenue Authority employment list, as the New leadership in the state has deployed their relatives only,” he remarked.
“We told them to go and report their matters(concerns) to the Commissioner of Revenue Authority and they turned down our decision and went ahead and locked the offices on their own, now the law enforcement officials have to act swiftly to contain the flare up of the problem between them and those deployed” He started.
As Northern Bahr El Ghazal state is a land-locked state that does not have enough resources to maintain her citizens, many officials do take advantage of the sources of employment such as the border town such as Majok-Yith-Thiou and Nimule as they(officials) end up assigning their own next kins and kith.
