The Governor of Unity State, Joseph Manytuil Wejang, has assured residents that there will be no more fighting across the state.

Speaking on Monday at Bentiu Independence Stadium, Manytuil urged communities to embrace unity and avoid conflict.

He emphasised that the people of Unity State share a common identity and should not fight among themselves.

“I want to assure you that there will be no more fighting this time. Let us focus on development programs such as building schools, hospitals, and roads to connect all seven counties of Unity State,” he said.

Governor Manytuil also noted that his reappointment by President Salva Kiir Mayardit came after public support and a directive to restore peace in the region.

Meanwhile, a resident, Mose Latjor Lony, expressed joy over the governor’s return.

He said people in the area need peace and remain committed to supporting peace.

“We need peace in our state,” he said, adding that insecurity had been high during the tenure of former governor Riek Bim Top, especially amid tensions involving SPLM-IO loyalists to Riek Machar, the suspended First Vice President.
