At least four people have been killed in an ambush along the Kaya–Yei Road while travelling to Yei on Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, confirmed the incident, noting that among the dead was a member of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).
In an official condolence message from his office, Commissioner Malimbo described the incident as a tragic loss to the families of the victims, the people of Yei River County, and the country at large.
“On behalf of the people and government of Yei River County, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Captain Ladu Isaac, the families of the other victims, and all those affected by this painful and unfortunate incident,” Malimbo said.
The commissioner condemned the attack, calling on security authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure accountability for those behind the ambush.
He warned that continued attacks on civilians and security personnel pose a serious threat to peace, stability, and the safety of communities across the region.
Speaking to family members and mourners, Malimbo said he had worked closely with the late Captain Isaac Ladu during their time in Juba before the officer was later deployed to Yei.
He described Ladu as a committed public servant and reflected on the unpredictability of life, saying death remains part of human existence and no one knows the length of their time on earth.
As part of solidarity with the bereaved family, the commissioner also provided logistical support to facilitate the transportation of Captain Ladu’s body to Juba for burial arrangements.
Family representative Huda Loyila Michael expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the support, describing the assistance as timely and important during a difficult period of mourning.
She confirmed that the body of the late Captain Isaac Ladu would be transported to Juba, where a burial committee is expected to coordinate the final funeral arrangements.
The incident adds to growing security concerns along major roads connecting Yei and neighbouring areas, where authorities have repeatedly called for increased protection of civilians and travellers.
Commissioner Malimbo concluded by calling for unity and calm as investigations continue, while urging the public to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and security.
