President Kiir makes mini-reshuffle in government, which relieves top officials

By Lodu William Odiya

President Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a series of presidential decrees on Wednesday evening, effecting significant changes within the national government and military leadership.

The announcements, broadcast on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), confirmed the dismissal of Salvatore Garang Mabiordit from his position as Minister of Finance and Planning.

In the same reshuffle, Julius Tabule Daniel was relieved of his duties as deputy minister of public service and human resource development.

The president also removed Santino Deng Wol from his role as undersecretary for veteran affairs in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs.

Additionally, General Paul Nang Majok was dismissed as Chief of Defense Forces of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

In a swift reorganisation, President Kiir reassigned and appointed new officials to key positions.

Kuol Daniel Ayulo has been named the new Minister of Finance and Planning, while Clement Juma was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

Mahjub Biel Turuk was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development.

In a notable military shift, General Santino Deng Wol has been elevated to the position of Chief of Defense Forces of the SSPDF, replacing General Paul Nang Majok, who has now been appointed undersecretary for veteran affairs in the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

In the decrees, President Kiir expressed appreciation for the outgoing officials, acknowledging their service to the nation.

He also extended his best wishes to the newly appointed leaders as they assumed their responsibilities.

The reshuffle comes at a time when South Sudan continues to navigate economic challenges and security concerns, with observers likely to watch closely how the new appointees steer their respective institutions.
