By Sabri Dibaco

The Police Commissioner of Western Equatoria State (WES), Samuel Tet, has been transferred to Bentiu in Unity State as part of a routine redeployment within the South Sudan National Police Service.

The press unit of the deputy governor of WES confirmed to No. 1 Citizen newspaper that a new police commissioner is expected to arrive in Western Equatoria State in the coming days to officially assume leadership of the state police command.

The transfer forms part of ongoing efforts by the South Sudan National Police Service to enhance security management, strengthen command structures, and improve the effectiveness of law enforcement operations across the country.

Officials in the government of Western Equatoria State expressed appreciation for Samuel Tet’s service during his tenure, acknowledging his contribution to maintaining law and order in the state.

The state government also welcomed the incoming commissioner in advance and pledged full cooperation in addressing security challenges and promoting peace in the region.

The leadership transition comes at a time when Western Equatoria continues to prioritise security and stability to support development, economic activities, and peaceful coexistence among communities.

Western Equatoria State has in recent years faced various security challenges, including criminal activities, cross-border threats, and occasional communal disputes.

The state police service has played a key role in maintaining public order and supporting government efforts to ensure the safety of citizens.

Police redeployments are a common practice within South Sudan’s security institutions and are often undertaken to strengthen operational effectiveness, share experience across regions, and respond to evolving security needs.

Bentiu, where Gen. Samuel Tet has been reassigned, is the capital of Unity State and remains a strategic area due to its economic significance and security considerations.

His transfer is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to enhance policing and public safety in the state.

Residents and stakeholders in Western Equatoria are now awaiting the arrival of the new commissioner, whose leadership will be expected to build on existing security gains and further strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
