The Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, has called on national and international organisations operating in the county to comply with labour regulations and ensure that residents are given fair employment opportunities.
Speaking during a meeting with the County Labour Office, Commissioner Malimbo expressed concern over reports that some organisations conduct recruitment exercises and interviews in Yei without informing or involving the county labour authorities.
He noted that many young people in Yei River County remain unemployed despite possessing the qualifications and skills required for various positions.
According to the commissioner, local communities often miss employment opportunities when organisations recruit staff from outside the county without adequately considering qualified local applicants.
Malimbo further emphasised the need for transparency and adherence to established labour procedures, urging organisations to work closely with the county labour office during recruitment processes.
The commissioner also directed the labour office to strengthen monitoring and oversight of organisations conducting recruitment activities in the county to ensure compliance with South Sudan’s labour laws.
Meanwhile, the Director of Labour for Yei River County, Baby Robert Onesmos, advised development partners and organisations to follow the provisions of the Labour Act of South Sudan when recruiting employees.
He stressed that compliance with legal procedures promotes fairness, accountability, and equal access to employment opportunities for local communities.
County officials reiterated their commitment to supporting the youth of Yei River County, many of whom are highly educated but continue to face limited employment opportunities.
They affirmed that the county government remains committed to advocating for the rights and economic empowerment of young people across the county.
The county leadership called on all partners operating in Yei to work collaboratively with local authorities to ensure recruitment processes are conducted transparently and in accordance with the law.
