At least one person was killed in Goi-Yom village in Aweng payam, Twic County, Warrap State, by unknown assailants.

According to the local reports on the ground, Deng Awolok Deng, in his 20s, was at the cattle camp sleeping when the raiders attacked him.

Police inspector of Aweng payam, Riing Mayuat, revealed that the raiders made a tactical move to make off with the cows by waiting for people to go to their rooms and targeted the man, handcuffed him, and blindfolded his mouth and eyes before making away with the cattle.

“The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday at night around 10:00 PM; the raiders attacked the man identified as Deng Awolok Deng, a young man of 20 years old, at Goi-Yom village within Aweng payam. They later shot him in the head, and he died, and people awoke to the gunshots,” he stated.

Mayuat stated that the deceased was later found bleeding seriously and passed away, though efforts were made by the youth to recover the cattle, which were not fruitful.

Major Riing Mayuat urged the residents to group their cattle and monitor them.

He underscored that a series of cattle had been looted and taken by men armed to the teeth.

Many cases of the same kind had been ongoing, while the residents blamed the repetition of the matters on the lack of the authority’s ability to take concrete action in preempting the matters.

Despite the disarmament efforts, hostile neighboring communities are not committing themselves to the peace messages by the national government.
