Azande Women Welfare endorses empowerment programs for women and girls

By Sabri Dibaco

Members of the Azande Women Welfare Organisation have endorsed a series of programs aimed at strengthening women’s economic empowerment, leadership, and community engagement during the organisation’s Annual General Assembly.

The resolutions, adopted at the meeting, include vocational skills training for women, the organisation of a women’s conference, sports activities to promote social cohesion, and participation in the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Announcing the resolutions, Executive Director Eliza Isaiah Paul said the programs were designed to address challenges facing women while creating opportunities for greater participation in community development.

“The vocational training program will equip women with practical skills to improve their livelihoods, while the women’s conference will provide a platform to discuss issues affecting our community and identify practical solutions,” Eliza said.

She said the organisation also intends to use sports to strengthen unity among women and young people and to take part in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign to raise awareness about violence against women and girls.

“Gender-based violence remains a concern in our communities. Through the 16 Days of Activism, we want to contribute to awareness, prevention, and advocacy for the protection of women and girls,” Eliza added.

The assembly also discussed the need to expand grassroots participation and improve coordination among members as the organisation implements the newly approved activities.

Participants welcomed the resolutions and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the programs through active participation and community outreach.

“These plans will only succeed if members remain united and involved. We are committed to working together to ensure that women across our community benefit from these initiatives,” one participant who didn’t want to be identified told the assembly.

Another delegate said members had agreed to play a greater role in mobilising women at the local level.

“Our responsibility now is to take these resolutions back to our communities, encourage participation and ensure that women have access to the opportunities being created,” the participant said.

The Annual General Assembly concluded with members pledging to strengthen cooperation across all zones and work collectively to implement the organisation’s priorities in the months ahead.
