The Council of Ministers has approved 11.3 trillion South Sudanese pounds (SSP) for the 2026/2027 fiscal year.

The Council of Ministers made the approval on Friday during a meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

According to the statement obtained from the presidential press unit, the decision marks an important early step in the national budget process.

The framework was presented to cabinet by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Daniel Ayulo Kuol, who outlined projected revenues alongside proposed expenditure limits across key government sectors.

Following the presentation, ministers held extensive deliberations on the country’s fiscal outlook and spending priorities before unanimously endorsing the proposed framework.

The approved resource envelope is designed to align government spending with expected revenues while ensuring fiscal discipline and continuity in public financial management.

The Council of Ministers further resolved to submit the framework to the Transitional National Legislative Assembly for consideration and approval, in accordance with established budgetary procedures.

Once reviewed and adopted by lawmakers, the framework will serve as the basis for preparing the detailed national budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, including allocations for both recurrent and development expenditures.

Government officials in recent years have emphasised the importance of early budget approvals to improve predictability in public spending and strengthen economic planning amid ongoing fiscal constraints.
