The newly elected chairman of the Thuri (Luo) community of Raja and Aweil, Mr. David Ayaga Burko Osman, on Friday concluded his first consultative meeting with community members in Wau, reaffirming his commitment to unity, inclusive leadership, and community development.
Mr. David was elected last week to lead the Thuri (Luo) community living in Aweil Centre County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
The meeting brought together chiefs, elders, women, youth, and other community leaders to introduce the new leadership, discuss challenges affecting the community, and identify opportunities for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. David thanked the Thuri community for the confidence they had placed in him and pledged to serve with dedication, transparency, and accountability.
“I sincerely thank the Thuri community of Raja and Aweil for the trust you have placed in me. I will work closely with all members of our community to strengthen unity and ensure that every voice is heard,” he said.
He praised the community for maintaining peace, unity, and harmonious relations with neighbouring communities, describing these values as the foundation for future progress.
“Our unity is our greatest strength. Let us continue to live in peace with our neighbours and work together to build a stronger and more prosperous community for future generations,” Mr. David added.
Community members welcomed the consultative meeting, saying it reflected a leadership committed to listening and working with the people.
“We are encouraged by this consultative approach. It gives us confidence that the new leadership values dialogue, respects the views of the community, and is committed to addressing our common challenges together,” one participant said.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to regular consultations, stronger cooperation among community members, and collective efforts to promote peace, unity, and development across the Thuri community of Raja and Aweil.
