A 30-year-old man is remaining at large in Akoc Payam, Twic County, in Warrap after his brother committed suicide over the weekend.
Police officials in Akoc Payam, in Twic County, say the man identified as Yuot Maper Yuot was found hanging in a tree after he quarrelled with his brother, who remains at large.
Police inspector of Akoc Payam, Col. Franco Akec Majok, said the incident occurred on Sunday after the two siblings quarrelled, and after that the elder brother committed a suicidal act in what others allegedly say was a premeditated death from his brother, who had a heated quarrel with him.
“What happened is that the two brothers in AKoc payam quarreled, and in the process, the younger brother escaped after his brother killed himself, as he was found hanging from a nearby tree,” said Majok
Akec says the relatives and parents of the duo have opened the case against the brother who remains at large.
“The relatives have opened the lawsuit against the man, and much is being done to apprehend him as he still goes unnoticed, and relative calm is being sought in the family as the burial arrangements are being made for a dignified burial,” he narrated.
This latest incident highlights the need for more to be done on community awareness of peaceful settlement of issues in relation to local conflicts that arise among the local people in the society, despite the underlying problems that go unreported to chiefs who are at the center of resolution of the problems.
Col. Akec calls for calm as the suspect, Wiir Maper Yuot, remains at large and is being looked for.
The prevalence of suicidal incidents is also being linked to the high inaction in resolving cases among the local people in the society, as peacebuilding efforts are being inhibited by a lack of resources, and attention is being paid to problems related to community violence, such as cattle raiding, that is on the rise in the communities where cattle theft and raiding have taken a large intensity.
