The Caretaker Commissioner of Torit County, Eddy William Ponsiano, has called on residents to uphold peace, unity, and security as South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 general elections.
Addressing a public gathering at Torit Freedom Square, Eddy urged citizens to register in large numbers during the ongoing voter registration exercise, saying broad participation is essential to ensuring a peaceful and democratic electoral process.
He encouraged eligible voters to support President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Eastern Equatoria State SPLM Chairperson Louis Lobong Lojore in the upcoming elections.
The commissioner assured residents that his administration is committed to maintaining peace and security across Torit County before, during, and after the elections.
“We will continue working to ensure that every citizen lives in peace and exercises their democratic rights without fear,” he said.
Ponsiano also issued a stern warning to criminal elements accused of disrupting public order, stating that anyone involved in criminal activities would face the full force of the law once arrested.
He said his leadership remains focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, and stability among the people of Torit County, stressing that development can only be achieved in a secure environment.
The caretaker commissioner further called on citizens to honour the legacy of the late John Garang de Mabior and other South Sudanese heroes and heroines who sacrificed for the country’s freedom.
He urged communities across Eastern Equatoria State and the country to use the commemoration as an opportunity to renew their commitment to peace, national unity, and reconciliation ahead of the general elections.
