Hundreds of residents in Torit joined Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore in commemorating Martyrs’ Day, paying tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives for South Sudan’s independence.
The event, held in Torit, brought together state and national members of Parliament in both the lower and upper houses of government in Juba; county party chairpersons; security forces; religious leaders; youth; women; and members of the public in a show of unity and remembrance.
Speaking during the commemoration, Governor Lobong called on citizens to honour the legacy of the country’s fallen heroes by promoting peace, unity, and patriotism.
He urged the people of Eastern Equatoria State to work together in building a stable and prosperous environment in the state as the nation prepares for its future.
He said the sacrifices made by the martyrs should inspire every South Sudanese to uphold national unity, support peaceful coexistence, and contribute to the country’s development.
The ceremony concluded with prayers and tributes, cultural dances in memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for South Sudan’s freedom.
