The Commissioner of Twic East County in Jonglei State, James Magok Mabiei, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and resettlement of the communities.
The commissioner stated that stability and the restoration of livelihoods remain a priority of the state and national government as well.
He made the remarks while briefing members of the Twic East Community in Juba on the county’s security situation and resettlement agenda.
The community engagement meeting, held on Monday, brought together representatives of youth, women, elders, and other community leaders to discuss pressing issues affecting Twic East County and the government’s efforts to address them.
During the briefing, Commissioner Mabiei highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and strengthening cooperation among communities following recent tensions in the swamp areas between Ayual of Twic East County and Hol of Duk County.
The Commissioner informed the gathering that the Jonglei State Government had initiated a peace conference in Bor last month as part of efforts to resolve the conflict and restore peaceful relations between the affected communities.
He confirmed that representatives from both sides had signed peace resolutions aimed at ending hostilities and creating a foundation for reconciliation.
“Twic East County remains fully committed to peace. The responsibility of protecting peace does not belong only to leaders but to every member of our community,” the commissioner emphasised during the meeting.
He called on youth, women, elders, and traditional leaders to support the implementation of the peace resolutions and work together to promote peaceful coexistence, unity, and reconciliation.
The Commissioner also used the occasion to present the Twic East Resettlement Agenda, a strategic initiative aimed at supporting the return and relocation of Twic East citizens to Eastland.
According to Commissioner Mabiei, the resettlement plan is designed to restore communities that have been affected by displacement, improve security conditions, and create opportunities for people to rebuild their lives in their ancestral areas.
“The goal of the resettlement agenda is not only the movement of people but also the restoration of dignity, livelihoods, and hope for our communities,” he said.
The County Government, he explained, will collaborate with the Jonglei State Government, humanitarian organisations, development partners, and community leaders to ensure that the resettlement process is safe, voluntary, and dignified.
Community representatives welcomed the Commissioner’s engagement and expressed support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and sustainable development in Twic East County.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for community members in Juba to receive updates directly from the county leadership and to discuss their role in supporting peace initiatives and development priorities.
Commissioner Mabiei urged the Twic East Community to remain united and actively participate in building a peaceful and prosperous future for the county.
“Peace and development can only be achieved when communities stand together with a shared vision and commitment,” he said.
The Office of the Commissioner stated that it will continue engaging citizens and providing regular updates on progress regarding peace efforts, resettlement plans, and other government programs aimed at improving the lives of Twic East people.
As Twic East County continues to address security challenges and humanitarian concerns, the county leadership says its priority remains the creation of a peaceful environment where citizens can return, rebuild, and contribute to the development of their communities.
