The Speaker of the Transitional Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly has praised Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa for his leadership, commitment to security, and continued support for the state legislature during the official reopening of the August House.
Addressing the Governor during the reopening ceremony, the Speaker, Anna Tuna, welcomed government officials, lawmakers, and guests, describing the occasion as a significant milestone in the Assembly’s legislative calendar.
“On behalf of the Transitional Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly and on my own behalf, I warmly welcome you all to this important function marking the reopening of the State Parliament,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to Governor Rimbasa for presiding over the reopening and acknowledged his financial and logistical support in making the event possible.
“I extend my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Your Excellency for your generous support, both in cash and in kind, which enabled this function to take place,” Anna stated.
The Assembly also commended the Governor’s efforts in promoting stability, security, and relative peace across Western Equatoria State.
According to the Speaker, the improved security environment has provided a conducive atmosphere for the legislature to carry out its constitutional mandate effectively.
She further praised the cordial working relationship between the Executive and the Legislative Assembly, saying the cooperation has strengthened governance and facilitated the conduct of parliamentary business.
“The State Assembly commends the State Executive for maintaining good cooperation and a harmonious working relationship with Parliament as it carries out its official business,” she noted.
The Speaker expressed optimism that the collaboration between the two arms of government would continue, emphasising the importance of mutual respect, understanding, and adherence to constitutional principles in advancing service delivery and development across the state.
The reopening of the Assembly marks the beginning of a new legislative session during which lawmakers are expected to deliberate on key government policies, legislation, oversight responsibilities, and matters affecting the people of Western Equatoria State.
On his part, the Governor stressed that all branches of government must function effectively to ensure accountability and improve public service delivery.
He said parliament plays a critical oversight role by ensuring transparency and passing laws needed to guide government operations.
“Today, having the Parliament who do the oversight of the government work and also for transparency and accountability purposes, we need the Parliament to be operational,” the Governor said.
He expressed satisfaction with the reopening of the assembly, describing it as an important step toward restoring government systems across the state.
The governor said his administration is committed to working closely with lawmakers and the judiciary to ensure government institutions perform their constitutional responsibilities.
“We are going to continue to work together with the Parliament, Executive Parliament and judiciary, and we are restoring the system in Western Equatoria, making sure that the government system must be there,” he said.
The governor thanked members of parliament, government officials, and stakeholders for supporting the reopening of the legislative assembly, expressing optimism that the renewed cooperation would help improve governance and deliver better services to the people of Western Equatoria.
