The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has dismissed reports alleging the closure of South Sudanese diplomatic missions abroad, clarifying that the country’s embassies remain operational and continue to perform their diplomatic duties.
The clarification was made on Thursday by Ambassador Apuk Ayuel Mayen, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who read a press statement issued by the Ministry concerning the status of South Sudan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
The ministry said it had taken note of media reports concerning the operations of the South Sudan Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as claims that other South Sudanese diplomatic missions had been closed.
According to the statement, the South Sudan Embassy in Nairobi has not closed but experienced a temporary technical issue that affected some of its operations. The ministry said efforts are underway to resolve the matter.
“The Embassy in Nairobi has not closed. A temporary technical issue affected some of its operations, and the matter is being resolved,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also rejected reports suggesting that other South Sudanese embassies had been shut down.
It emphasised that South Sudan’s diplomatic missions around the world remain operational and continue to discharge their diplomatic functions.
The clarification comes amid reports circulating in the media concerning the status of South Sudanese diplomatic missions, particularly the Embassy in Nairobi.
The ministry urged members of the public and media organisations to rely on official government channels when seeking information about the operations of South Sudan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the country’s diplomatic engagements and ensuring that its missions abroad continue representing South Sudan and providing necessary diplomatic services.
