Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State, Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, has inspected Kapuri Bridge following heavy overnight rains that disrupted movement between the Kapuri and Kabu areas.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the condition of the crossing and the impact of flooding on residents who depend on the bridge for access to schools, businesses, and other essential services.
According to a statement issued after the visit, the governor assessed the situation firsthand and observed the challenges facing residents following the rise in water levels.
The Executive Director of Juba County, Alfatih Margani Agal, said the rising water had submerged the temporary concrete crossing being used by residents after the main bridge was damaged.
He said the flooding had significantly disrupted movement, particularly for pupils and students travelling to schools.
“The disruption prevented pupils and students from reaching their schools and affected access to businesses and other services,” Agal said.
He explained that some heavy trucks managed to cross the flooded section at around 8 a.m., carrying a number of residents across the affected area.
However, movement remained difficult for other road users because of the high-water levels and poor condition of the temporary crossing.
The disruption has raised concerns among residents who rely on the route for their daily activities, including accessing markets, schools, workplaces, and other essential services.
Agal thanked Governor Wani for visiting the area and assessing the situation, saying the inspection demonstrated attention to the challenges facing communities affected by the flooding.
The Kapuri Bridge is an important link for residents travelling between Kapuri and Kabu. Its disruption has increased difficulties for communities that depend on the crossing, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The authorities are expected to continue assessing the situation as water levels change and determine measures to restore safer and more reliable movement along the route.
