SPLM urges women, youth leagues to intensify preparations for national convention

By Sabri Dibaco

The Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, has urged the party’s Women and Youth Leagues to intensify grassroots mobilisation and prepare for upcoming party congresses as the movement reorganises ahead of the planned December 2026 elections.

Dr. Kordit made the call during a strategic meeting with the leadership of the SPLM Women League and Youth League, describing the two groups as key organs of the movement.

The meeting comes as the SPLM steps up preparations for its third National Convention, internal primaries, and congresses. The party has also directed its structures and cadres to return to their constituencies and strengthen grassroots preparations.

Dr. Kordit said the youth have a central role in mobilising members and strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

“The youth are the engine, energy, and mobilizers of the SPLM movement,” the statement reads

He also highlighted the historical contribution of women to the movement, describing the Women League as the “mothers of the movement” because of their role in providing food, logistics, and other forms of support during the struggle.

The Secretary General directed SPLM structures at all levels to begin preparations for their respective congresses and actively participate in the reorganisation process leading to the Third National Convention.

The Chairlady of the SPLM Women League, Adak Costa Mapur, welcomed the party’s support for the league and said women were ready to participate in the upcoming party activities.

“The support we have received is moving us from motivation to discipline,” the statement reads in part.

She said the Women’s League would participate in the upcoming congresses, primaries and Third National Convention while working to ensure implementation of the 35 per cent affirmative action for women.

The Youth League Chairperson, Puok Bol Par, also pledged the youth’s commitment to implementing the directives of the party leadership.

He said the youth would immediately begin reorganising and mobilising their structures across the country in preparation for upcoming party activities.

He further pledged that the Youth League would work to mobilise support for the SPLM ahead of the December elections.

The SPLM has in recent weeks intensified its grassroots organisation, including preparations for internal primaries and state congresses ahead of the Third National Convention.

The party has instructed its leagues and structures from the national, state and county levels down to Payam and Boma levels to mobilise members, prepare for congresses, and participate in the reorganisation process.

The national secretariats of the Women and Youth Leagues are expected to provide guidance and logistical support to lower-level structures as preparations continue toward the Third National Convention and the planned December 2026 elections.
