One Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND), a civil society organization has condemned bombardments in Unity State. At least ten people were wounded and35 cattle died in the bombardment.
In a statement obtained by this publication, OCND reported that many residents have evacuated their homes and are now displaced in search of safety.
“Many people have fled their homes and displaced because of the aerial bombardment due to the conflicts between the South Sudan people’s defense forces SSPDF/UPDF and Sudan people liberation Army in opposition (SPLA-IO) in Payinjiar Unit state” the statement noted.
The organization highlighted that the aerial attacks targeted areas including Pachienjiok, Pachak, and Pualmuok, prompting residents from the affected areas to seek refuge in Payinjiar headquarters, Tayar Island, Kol Payam, Paak Boma, and Machar Boma.
It said the bombardment has instilled fear within the local community.
OCND urged humanitarian agencies, the government of Unity State, Lake State authorities, and the national government to intervene by providing shelter, food assistance, and clean water for the affected populations.
It further called on the warring parties to adhere to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflicts in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) to enhance security and reconciliation efforts, which the organization believe would prevent further displacement and promoting peaceful coexistence among local communities.
“Action must be taken to prevent further loss of innocent lives and to restore peace and security within the community,” the statement said.
