By Kei Emmanuel Duku

Defying economic uncertainties, Emmanuel Christian University (ECU)-Goli Campus in Yei River County has planted over 3,000 coffee seedlings during the weekend.

The planting exercise was spearheaded by the university Vice-Chancellor, Daniel Ohide and his deputy, Rev. Simon Lasuba, alongside staff, students, and other volunteers.

According to a statement from the institution, the coffee planting project is a courageous endeavour aimed at revamping and boosting coffee and other agricultural productivity within Yei River County.

“It’s a testament to the community’s hope and determination to build a sustainable future. The event transcended a simple planting exercise, evolving into a significant moment where belief in the future took root, driven by purpose rather than ideal conditions,” the statement reads.

The statement further added that the commitment shown and invested by the university administration represents a legacy of action and hope, extending to the students, staff, alumni, and others who participated in Saturday’s coffee planting exercise.

The school management stated that this bold move underscores the timeless principle that dedicated action can overcome even the most daunting economic hurdles, and it should serve as an inspiration to the public observing from afar.

“The physical effort and time invested by the Vice-Chancellor and his Deputy were transformative, planting purpose in the hearts of all who participated. As the coffee seedlings found their place in the earth, a deeper conviction took hold within everyone present: that true transformation begins with action,” the statement concluded.
