The Ministry of Agriculture in South Sudan’s Northern Bhar El Gazal state has planned to install the weather station at the Aweil Rice scheme.

According to the ministry, the initiative will include thrashing machines already secured for both Aweil East and South counties to help farmers with both production and weather patterns.

Speaking to the media, Oliver Garang Chan Atak, the state minister of agriculture, expressed that it will boost the ability of farmers to know the weather updates.

The minister added that the threshing machines will help the farmers to thresh sorghum.

He revealed that this would help effectively, as the farmers will be thrashing the grains using the machines without difficulties.

This achievement came in the wake of poor harvests that have been noted in the recent past years.

‘We have a project of a weather station at the Aweil Rice scheme; it will be providing updates about the rain and wind. Also, we have got machines for thrashing the sorghums by the farmers once it is time to store them. It will allow the farmers to move shift from traditional methods of thrashing or winnowing them,” he revealed” Garang said.

He also disclosed that an agriculture research centre has been established at the Aweil Rice scheme to enable farmers to understand the type of soils that would be suitable for varieties of crops that can be planted.

He expressed that the recruitment will be rolled out for those who will be trained at the centre.
