South Sudan is a young nation, but today it is passing through very hard times. Life for many people is full of pain, and the future looks dark for our youth. One sad example is the poor condition of our roads. A woman who is ready to give birth may not reach the hospital because the roads are too rough and broken. Some women are forced to deliver their babies on the way. This is not only dangerous for the mother, but also for the child. Poor roads, lack of ambulances, and shortage of health workers show how much we are suffering as a nation.
But the problem is not only with roads. Our society is facing many wounds. People are being killed in different parts of the country. Armed men attack villages and homes at night. Others steal from travelers during the day. Some break into houses to take property by force. Many families live in fear. These crimes are happening because people have fallen into deep poverty. When there is no work and no food, some turn to violence and stealing.
The young people of South Sudan are carrying the biggest burden. Many of them complete their studies in universities, but there are no jobs waiting for them. They return home with certificates but no opportunities. This makes them hopeless. Some end up in the markets selling small goods to survive. Others spend their time drinking alcohol because they have lost the meaning of life. Alcohol then leads to more crime, violence, and broken families.
Young girls also face a heavy struggle. Without support, many of them are exposed to older men who use money to take advantage of them. Some young girls are forced into prostitution, not because they want it, but because poverty has left them with no other choice. Others leave their homes to live with boyfriends, not out of love but out of survival. Because the nation does not take care of their needs, they are pushed into unsafe relationships.
For the young men, the story is the same. Some run to look for “sugar mummies” — older women with money who can provide for them. This is not because the young men are lazy, but because they are broken by poverty and hopelessness. Others look for magic and witchcraft, believing that charms and rituals will bring them wealth and power. This shows how desperate our youth have become in search of answers.
The truth is that South Sudan is in a very serious condition. The care for humanity has lost value. Human life, which should be respected and protected, is now treated as cheap. Poverty, corruption, and greed have made people forget the importance of dignity and kindness. Families are suffering, youth are broken, and women are crying.
But in the middle of this darkness, we must remember that God still sees. If God listens one day, change will surely come. Those who think they are the best, those who believe they control everything, and those who oppress others will see their power fall apart. No leader is greater than God. No corrupt system can last forever.
What South Sudan needs now is healing. We need peace that can end the killings and the attacks. We need jobs for our youth so that they can use their energy to build the country, not destroy it. We need respect for women so that they can walk safely, give birth safely, and raise their children with hope. We need care for the poor so that no one is forced to steal, beg, or sell themselves to survive.
The government has a big role to play, but change does not only come from leaders. Every family, every church, every community must also take responsibility. Parents must guide their children. Churches must preach peace, not hate. Communities must care for each other and not ignore those who are suffering. If each of us does our part, we can bring back the value of humanity in our nation.South Sudan can rise again. Our land is rich, our people are strong, and our youth have dreams. But for this to happen, we must stand together and rebuild our nation with love, peace, and justice. The future of South Sudan depends on what we do today. Let us not allow our country to continue sinking into violence, poverty, and hopelessness. Let us give life back to our people, hope back to our youth, and dignity back to our nation.
