The authorities in Twic East County of Jonglei State have confirmed to this publication on Tuesday that more than 10 people were killed in a renewed revenge attack at Nang fishing site in Twic East County.
According to Twic East County authorities, 4 people also sustained injuries during the Sunday attack.
“The wounded people have been transferred to Juba and now being hospitalized, during the incident some people were missed and so far they have been identified and the death toll has reached 11 people to have been killed’’, Arok told No.1 Citizen Daily.
According to the officials, Lang is a fishing Island from Adhiok Community in Twic East, its inhabitants depend largely on fishing activity.
The incident was also confirmed to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, by the Commissioner of Twic East County Hon. Jauch Arok, who added that the attack had destroyed livelihoods.
“Yes so far on Sunday morning around 4: 30 am, this is when the attack occurred at Nang, Nang is an Island in Lith Payam, and the attack was waged by our neighbor brothers in Duk. This is the circle of attacks, any of this kind happened in June this year and it was waged by the same people, it’s tragic and it has caused destruction’’, Juach confrimed.
Mr.Arok stated that among the deceased comprised of fishermen from different counties of Jonglei and Lakes state.
He emphasized that he is engaging his counterpart in Duk to join effort in curbing the continues circle of attacks among the local communities.
“Well, I have been talking to my counterpart since I came to power in 2024, and I found it’s a continuation process. When you come now to Panyagoor [now], these people are living together; they are brothers. So I call upon my counterpart to exert more power or effort to contain his people,” he said.
According to the Commissioner, the suspected attackers are believed to have come from Duk County in Jonglei.
The local communities of Ayuel, Adhiok and Hol in Twic East and Duk Counties, respectively, have been engaging in a circle of revenge attacks fuelled by a highly disputed fishing site since 2023.
Many lives and properties had been lost in the aftermath of these revenge attacks, and efforts to reach Duk County authorities for comment were unsuccessful.
