While South Sudan remains under the transitional and extended leadership, a question of whether it is part of democracy remains unanswered as delays for democratic elections surface now and then.
Acknowledging the relevant peace agreement that ended the 2013 crisis, the desire for democratic election is within the citizens; however, circumstances can not allow it happened as expected.
With current peace obstacles, some have started to worry whether the election will take place.
It is not yet clear whether the parties to the peace agreement would path better ways to conduct fair and inclusive elections or get another means to extend the leadership.
Since independence the government has been led through transitional government due to conflict; this may confuse the young generation to ask their fathers and mentors whether the provisional government is democratic.
While the question remains unanswered, the South Sudanese population and leaders must engage in all practices that portray a democratic society, such as freedoms and pluralism. Individual rights, rule of law, among others.
At the time political leaders should respect and put into practice the above election, transitional leadership will end, and elected leadership will be realized after fair and peaceful elections.
Since respect for the election of democracy is the start of progressive government with its people.
As the 2026 election timeline approaches, coming together through dialogue and implementing the pending tasks in the 2018 peace agreement become vital for democracy to prevail in the country.
