Twic County of Warrap State has launched a malaria vaccine campaign targeting 12000 children in the area.

Speaking to the media, Twic County Health Director James Garang Chuol revealed that as the campaign continues, many children have been vaccinated, while the target stands at 12,000.

He said the aim is to curb the high deaths among children due to malaria cases and other health-related complications.

The director expressed that the children become susceptible to the disease easily, as their immune system is fragile or weakened.

“The campaign was meant to curb the deaths among the children, as it is malaria peak.We targeted 12 thousand in 6 payams, such as Aweng, Abyei-Dau, and Mayaen-abun, Wun-rok, among others,” Garang said.

“This is because we are unable to cover the larger target due to our vulnerability in the Health Ministry, as we just rely on donors such as the partners,” he revealed.

Garang said the campaign was launched in order to help  children  as some of the health facilities have run out of drugs in the recent past.

“The partners like MSF are the ones helping us with these drugs for which we are doing the vaccination against malaria,” he noted.

He said many areas have not been reached due to a lack of enough vaccines, adding that they are going to lobby for more support through the coordination meetings to ensure that many children are covered as well.

Many residents in and around Twic County and Warrap State are battling with the shortage of drugs, which they are decrying.

It remains to be seen how the authorities will help do away with or manage the crisis of health hazards that they face.
