NBG’s youth to inaugurate new leadership, calls for support

The youth in Northern Bahr El Gazal state (NBGs) have called for support as they plan to inaugurate elected leaders.

The body was elected to power early this month; now prepare to assume office with zeal to focus on youth activities.

Speaking to the media, Deng Peter Natale, the deputy chairperson of the new youth leadership in Aweil, stated that they have formed a committee to mobilize funds for the inauguration.

He appealed to the well-wishers, government, and organizations to support and facilitate the youth activities.

“What we are doing is to appeal to you to give us whatever you have, and this goes to all people of all walks of life. Give whatever you can afford to help us do the inauguration ceremony,” Deng appealed.

“One of the reasons is that some people in the states don’t know that our leadership has succeeded the old faces, and that is why we need to do the inauguration ceremony so that it will become like a swearing-in ceremony,” he noted.

Mary Atong Kuot, the secretary of social welfare, who is part of the fundraising mobilization committee, which is set up to amass funds for the scheduled ceremony, said that they have so far received over 1 million SSP from authorities, including the governor and other line ministries.

“Governor Mawut has given us his support and other ministries as well as the individuals in the state, which stands at over 1 million SSP,” she stated.

She said that they need a significant amount, which would help bring all the youth from the counties in order to make a huge ceremony colourful.

The youth revealed that the governor has allotted them a block of 12 plots, which they have followed up with the ministry of physical infrastructure officials to facilitate the documentation of the plots given to the youth leadership.

The youth leaders also stated that the governor, Simon Ober Mawut, has also pledged to give them a feddan in the Aweil Rice scheme to help them get money once they cultivate it, which comes next year.

The new leadership stated that the immensity of youth unemployment and the lack of income-generating activities for young people remain obstacles that need to be addressed.
