Police in Gogrial East of Warrap State have apprehended a mother for dumping a newborn in the pit latrine.

According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday after local residents in the area of Manyang Payam noticed the abandoned child and started the search for the mother.

According to the sources, this was as a result of extramarital love that she developed with another man, a move condemned by the cultures.

Police inspector Sg Malek Makuc BOl confirmed the incident and described it as a shock that is still under investigation.

“The woman tried to hide the child in the pit latrine, and she tried to bleed, as she has four kids with her real husband, who is currently in Juba. When people learned that she was bleeding, she refused to talk,” said Makuc.

“The signs of blood made people know that she had committed the act of dumping the child in the pit latrine close to the market of Manyang payam and heard the baby crying,” he stated.

Makuc said the police were informed about the incident of the child they heard crying in the pit, which was about to get full to the brim.

However, later, the local residents tried to use their skills to use the ropes and successfully remove the newborn.

The officer, Makuc, said that the local Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) washed the newborn with hot water; hence, it survived.

Makuc said the act is punishable, as the husband has been notified about the incident.

He condemned the act and called on the resident to report such cases should they surface.
