By Lodu William Odiya

The South Sudan Security forces has yesterday resolved to collaborate and work together to permanently eliminate the roadblocks in the country.

In statement issued by the South Sudan Peoples Forces (SSPDF) spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the resolution came during a lengthy and fruitful deliberation on security situation in the country.

“On 14/10/2025, the heads of security forces (CDF-SSPDF, IGP-SSNPS and DG-NSS-ISB) met to review the general security situation in the country” the statement read.

according to the statement, the heads of security forces resolved to form a joint security force to conduct patrol and permanently eliminate the illegal roadblocks in the country.

The statement underscored the forces would track down and hold to account the individual groups that keeps on re-establishing removed roadblocks.

In the statement the joint security forces consists of South Sudan Peoples Defense Force, South Sudan National Police Services and South Sudan National Security Services.

In a March 2025 directive, Kiir instructed the SSPDF to immediately halt any offensive actions against rival forces.

Despite this order, incidents of violence and continued illegal collections have persisted, undermining peace efforts and frustrating economic recovery.

The Juba–Nimule highway remains South Sudan’s main trade lifeline, linking the capital to Uganda and other regional markets.

But constant harassment, illegal taxation, and insecurity threaten its reliability. Traders underscored the costs were passed on to consumers, driving up already high prices of goods in local markets.

By cracking down on illegal roadblocks, the government hopes to restore trust among road users, ease business operations, and strengthen revenue collection through legal channels.

For now, all eyes remain on whether the Inter-Agency Committee can sustain its operations and dismantle entrenched networks of corruption on South Sudan’s roads.
