The newly appointed Upper Nile State Governor Jacob Dollar Ruot has urged IDPs in Malakal’s POC site to return home and help rebuild and develop the town.
Speaking exclusively to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Upper Nile State Minister of Information Peter Ngwojo Akwiny revealed that Governor Dollar made strong emphasis on the importance of resettlement and community involvement in fostering peace and progress.
“All IDPs who are in the POC site here in Malakal should return home and contribute to the development of the town,” he told this outlet.
According to Minister Ngwojo, Governor Dollar also addressed concerns about the security situation in the state, assuring the public that measures are being taken to stabilize the region and facilitate the free movement of goods and services. He pledged to prioritize safety and economic recovery during his tenure.
Jacob Dollar Ruot was appointed Governor of Upper Nile State on October 3, 2025, by presidential decree from President Salva Kiir Mayardit, replacing James Koang Chuol.
Before his appointment, he served as Speaker of the state legislative assembly, where he earned recognition for his achievements during a six-month tenure.
The governor’s arrival in Malakal was marked by a grand reception at the Malakal Airstrip, attended by national government officials from Juba, including Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries Adigo Nyekwec, SPLM third deputy chairperson Simon Kun Pouch, and senior officials Ezikiel Lul Gatkuoth, Stephen Dhieu Dau, and Peter Charlman.
Following a security briefing with state officials, Governor addressed thousands of residents and representatives from surrounding counties and reiterated his commitment to restoring peace and stability in Upper Nile State and acknowledged the challenges ahead during his first 100 days in office.
State Minister of Information Peter Ngwojo Akwiny praised the governor’s leadership and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the state through this critical period.
“Appointing him as governor is a challenge, but I trust he is capable, qualified, and fit for the position,” Ngwojo said adding “We will join hands to improve security and stability in the state.”
Governor Dollar concluded his remarks by thanking President Kiir for the appointment and reaffirming his dedication to serving the people of Upper Nile State.
