South Sudan Embassy in Kenya to resume operation after ‘brief interruption’

 By Jacob Onuha Nelson

The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in the Republic of Kenya has officially announced resumption following what it termed a “brief interruption.”

According to the statement extended to the media, the embassy linked the reason for the interruptions to internal administrative arrangements.

The Embassy of South Sudan in Nairobi has announced that it will resume operations tomorrow, Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Anthony Louis Kon, South Sudan’s ambassador to Kenya, confirmed the statement.

This statement followed social media reports and allegations that the embassy was shut down due to unpaid rent.

He added that the normal operation will resume on Thursday following the successful addressing of internal administrative arrangements that previously temporarily affected services for over days.

“The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Nairobi wishes to inform the public, the South Sudanese community, and all partners in Kenya that normal operations will resume (Thursday) tomorrow, following the successful addressing of internal administrative arrangements that had temporarily affected its services over the past few days,” it read.

According to the statement, the Embassy sincerely apologizes to all the citizens, clients, and stakeholders for the inconvenience caused by this brief interruption.

It further emphasized that the temporary closure arose from administrative adjustments that have now been fully addressed through constructive engagement and cooperation with all relevant authorities.

The statement expressed that the embassy deeply appreciates the understanding, patience, and goodwill shown by the South Sudanese community and the general public during that period.

It said as the operation resumes, the embassy reaffirmed its commitment to deliver services and protect the interests of the citizens and strengthen the relations with Kenya.

“As operations resume, the Embassy reaffirms its unwavering commitment to delivering efficient consular services, protecting the interests of South Sudanese citizens, and strengthening the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Kenya,” it stated.

The mission further reiterated that it assures all South Sudanese students, businesspersons, travellers, and members of the diaspora that it remains dedicated to promoting their welfare and facilitating diplomatic, consular, and community engagements without further disruption.

It further emphasized that the Embassy also extends its sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Kenya for its continued support and partnership and to the media for their professionalism and understanding.

However, earlier this month, on November 7, 2025, the South Sudanese embassy in Nairobi was alleged to have been close shut following the landlord’s actions due to unpaid rent arrears.
