Jonglei State Governor Riek Gai Kok has made a peace tour to Akobo County, where he called on the communities to embrace peace.
Governor Gai arrived in Akobo County on Saturday despite allegations of political interference from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO).
The opposition was early alleged to have objected to the governor’s visit through a social media statement
However, the governor and delegation landed in the area and toured many areas to spread the message of peace.
Addressing the media in Akobo County, the government applauded the people in the area for maintaining peace and urged them to continue with such spirit.
He called on the churches and traditional institutions to take the lead in rebuilding unity, restoring peace, and reawakening moral values across the county.
The governor emphasized that the moral and spiritual health of the state is deeply tied to the Church, declaring, “If the Church does not get it right, Jonglei will not get it right.”
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to advancing peace, unity, and development during his official visit to Akobo County.
Addressing a jubilant gathering, the governor commended the people of Akobo for their resilience, steadfast pursuit of peace, and significant contributions to the socio-political progress of Jonglei State.
Governor Riek underscored that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of harmony, cooperation, and mutual respect among communities.
The governor further encouraged citizens to embrace peace as a fundamental value essential for prosperity, urging them to uphold unity and remain hopeful for a brighter future.
