Authorities in state has reported that at least fourteen people had been killed by armed youth over a death of a man who was killed in the area.

This incident occurred when a man from Nyar-muong was reportedly killed by a suspect who escaped and was spotted heading towards Jur-man-anger section In Gogrial East County.

This prompted the Nyar-muong group to launch the attack against the Jur’s section leaving 14 dead and 5 wounded on both sides.

Warrap state government information minister, Mameer Baath said the incident shook the state by surprise as the people killed were in huge numbers in a revenge killing.

“What happened is that the man from Nyar-Muong cattle keeping community was killed by a suspect whom they believed hails from Jur-man-Anger who remains at large and for that reason as he was seen heading towards Juur the able-bodied men launched the attack leaving 14 dead and 5 injured,” Minister Baath highlighted.

“The Division 11 SSPDF forces have been sent to the chaotic scene and the fight was curtailed or brought to a standstill” he added.

He said the incident had raised fears in the county as many residents in Gogrial East County have been fearful, as a result of the attack on the Juur-Man-Anger, saying the forces have been posted to the scene to quell the tension.

“The forces are doing even the disarmament, and we are doing all we could to ensure that this doesn’t repeat itself” he cautioned.

He said the authorities were scaling up all efforts to ensure that revenge killings could not spill over to other communities who has similar scenarios of their loved ones killed by men of their neighbouring communities.

The incident underscored the recurrence of violence in Warrap and this is being blamed by lack of reconciliatory efforts being embraced by the communities of Warrap despite the state of emergency being declared by the president early in 2025.

It remains to be seen how such developments would contribute to peace-making despite the efforts that the new installed Governor have been pledging to establish in the state.
