Morobo County authorities have launched an investigation into the killing of a local businessman, Simon Bidali, popularly known as Bangutu.
The businessman was attacked by an unidentified armed assailant on Tuesday.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Morobo County, Charles Data Bullen, directed all organized security forces in the county to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident, which also reportedly involved the sexual assault of the victim’s wife.
According to family members who spoke during Bidali’s funeral held in Ududra, the attack occurred around midnight when an armed individual allegedly broke into the family’s home, robbed cash and other valuables, and forced Bidali and his wife to move toward the Adekede River. Family accounts indicate that Bidali was later shot dead at the riverbank. These details are yet to be independently verified by authorities.
Speaking at the deceased’s residence on Tuesday morning, Commissioner Data said preliminary information pointed to earlier reports of suspicious movement by a person carrying a firearm in the area prior to the incident. He noted that the information was not reported to security organs at the time.
The Commissioner warned that failure to report suspicious activities poses a serious risk to public safety and urged residents to promptly alert security agencies whenever potential threats are observed.
While the suspect remains at large, Commissioner Data said security agencies have been instructed to use all lawful means to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
He strongly condemned the killing, describing it as part of a troubling trend of gun-related violence in the county.
The Commissioner referenced the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old youth reported approximately three weeks ago, calling the incidents alarming and unacceptable.
Commissioner Data reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of civilians and extended condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the county government.
“The government stands in solidarity with the family during this difficult time,” he said.
The Office of the Commissioner has appealed to the public to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and continue supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace, safety, and stability in Morobo County.
Authorities said further details, including official confirmation of circumstances surrounding the incident and contact information for the family, will be released once investigations progress.
