*Nowadays’ Datings and Marriages*

By Engr. Maker Mangol Acien Yuol

The nowadays’ datings and marriages are too dynamic and have drastically changed over the years. It is very easy for a girl to get spoiled and get married easily too. some girls get spoiled and hardly get married perhaps they find it hard to get a man if she is being impregnated and the man refuses to marry her. She will definitely remain at her father’s home and wait for any man to marry her as second hand ladies are avoided but they are left to married men.

In the past, it was common for a man to wait until he was significantly older to marry a young girl, sometimes waiting up to 30 years and above. Those men of old days could be taught how to sleep with women when they get married. Even a girl couldn’t accept to stand with the man of twenties years below, they were believed to have been very young and not ready to handle a girl. Today, the situation is quite different.

A 12-year-old girl can be married after her menstruation begins, often staying with her parents for 1 to 2 months while breastfeeding her child. This practice contributes to child marriage. Boys and men today often seek young women to break their virginity at the age of 12 and above.

In the modern world, maintaining virginity until the age of 12 and beyond has become rare. The influence of the digital age, referred to as the world of dot (.) com, has led to increased socialization among children, which sometimes results in inappropriate behavior touching themselves anyhow and leads to sexual intercourse thus the loss of Virginity.

The government and the organizations are attempting to curb these practices. Despite their efforts, the issue persists, and many blame the South Sudanese government for the prevalence of easy marriages.

The situation is complex and requires a nuanced understanding.

As addressing these challenges involve a combination of education, community engagement, and policy reform, Educators and community leaders should work to raise awareness about the implications of child marriage and the importance of empowering young girls through education. By providing access to schooling and promoting gender equality, communities can help shift cultural norms and create opportunities for young women to pursue their aspirations.

The legal frameworks should be examined and strengthened to protect minors from early marriage. Advocacy groups should push for stricter enforcement of laws and legislation that aligns with international human rights standards. These initiatives aim to ensure that children can enjoy their childhood without the pressure of premature marital responsibilities.

In addition to legal and educational measures, there is a growing emphasis on the role of technology in shaping societal attitudes. While the digital age has contributed to some of the challenges, it also offers tools for positive change. Online platforms can be used to disseminate information, connect communities, and support campaigns that promote healthy relationships and respect for individual rights.

Ultimately, addressing the issue of child marriage requires collaboration among government entities, non-governmental organizations, and local communities. By working together, it is possible to create an environment where young people can thrive and make informed choices about their futures. .
