President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed that there would be no extension of transitional period.
The president stated that the country commits to dialogue as well as putting necessary plans in place to conduct elections.
In a statement that was issued on the presidential press unit, Kiir made the remark after returning from Adis Ababa after his engagement at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit on Monday.
“The President underscored that there will be no more extension of the transitional period. This, he said is to allow the people of South Sudan to have a chance to elect their leaders through a democratic process” the statement partly read.
During the C5 Plus meeting, President Kiir delivered a strong message and clear report outlining the current political situation in South Sudan and the government’s ongoing efforts to prepare for the general elections slated for December this year.

He was received by Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai along with other senior government officials.
On his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Monday Semaya Kumba emphasised that while in Addis Ababa, the President engaged in series of high-level bilateral talks to strengthen strategic partnerships and enhance regional cooperation.
