President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered the Sudan People Liberation Movement’s Secretariat to undertake a comprehensive audit and evaluation of all the party’s assets, investments, and related companies both at home and abroad.
According to a statement that was released by Presidential press unit yesterday, president Kiir who chairs SPLM made the directives after receiving a progress report from the party’s Secretariat.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered the SPLM’s Secretariat to undertake a comprehensive audit and evaluation of all the party’s assets, investments, and related companies both at home and abroad” the statement partly read.
The report presented to the President who is also the chairperson of the SPLM covered activities, strategic plans, and preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
This also follows their recent visit to Luri Payam, where they assessed SPLM’S assets, and investments projects.
The party’s leader underscored that a proper inventory and management of party assets would enable the membership to fully benefit from the movement’s investments.
The Head of State underlined the need for strict enforcement of discipline in all party structures, including members holding government positions.
Meanwhile, Secretary General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit expressed SPLM readiness for the elections, welcoming the recent stance adopted by African leaders.
He called for no further extension of the South Sudan’s transitional period, highlighting the needs for the country to continue with the implementation of agreed timelines in the roadmap.
General elections are due to be held in South Sudan on 22 December 2026, the first since independence.
Following the independence of South Sudan, the country’s initial constitution scheduled national elections to be held by 9 July 2015.
Elections has been postponed several times and finally currently scheduled to be held in December this year.
These delays were caused by a myriad of factors including the outbreak of the South Sudanese Civil War.
