A prominent politician and football supporter has donated one million South Sudanese Pounds to Al Wahida FC to support the team’s participation in the South Sudan National Cup currently taking place in Juba.
The donation was made on Saturday in the capital and is part of ongoing support he has extended to football teams from Western Equatoria State that travelled to compete in the national tournament.
In addition to the cash contribution, the supporter—identified as Mboriman—also provided two goats, sets of football jerseys, playing boots, and food items to assist the two teams representing the state: Al Wahida FC and Nguluwa FC.
Speaking during the handover, Mboriman said his support is intended to promote football and encourage young people to engage in constructive activities.
“Football plays a big role in uniting communities and keeping our youth active. Supporting our teams is one way of encouraging talent and development in our state,” he said.
The head coach of Al Wahida FC, Daniel Fatr, welcomed the assistance, saying the support came at an important time for the team.
“We are very grateful for this generous support. The jerseys, boots, food items, and financial contribution have motivated our players and will help the team perform better,” Fatr said.
He noted that many local clubs face financial challenges when travelling to compete in national tournaments, adding that such support helps ease some of the difficulties.
Team captain Emmanuel Justin said initiatives like this are crucial for the growth of grassroots football in South Sudan, particularly in Western Equatoria State where many young players are passionate about the sport.
Mboriman is widely known for his interest in football and for supporting youth activities aimed at promoting peace and coexistence in communities.
