The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Parliamentary Caucus has unanimously declared a vote of no confidence in Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumba.

The decision was reached during a caucus meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who also the chairperson of the SPLM.

According to a statement released by the SPLM National Secretariat, members discussed internal issues related to the management and administration of parliament.

The discussions however resulted into declaration of vote of no confidence in the speaker of the National Assembly.

“The Caucus members unanimously declared vote of ‘No Confidence’ in Rt.Hon. Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA). Rt. Hon. Cde. Jemma Nunu Kumba. As result, the MPs are waiting for the nomination of a new August House Speaker by the SPLM high echelon leadership” the statement partly read.

Although the statement did not specify the reasons behind the decision, the vote underscores growing dissatisfaction within the party over the leadership of the August House.

The vote effectively sets the stage for Nunu’s removal, with members of parliament now awaiting the nomination of a new Speaker from the SPLM’s top leadership.

Given the party’s majority in parliament, its decision is expected to determine the next occupant of the powerful position.
