Authorities in Yei River County have directed that all heavy trucks operating within the county be relocated to the former UNHCR compound in Lutaya as part of efforts to reduce congestion in the town and improve security management.
Speaking during an inspection visit, Yei River County Commissioner Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo said the relocation aims to decongest the town center while creating a designated parking area for large commercial vehicles.
The commissioner instructed security agencies and the administration of Yei Town Payam to ensure that heavy trucks are immediately moved to the former UNHCR compound, describing the site as a suitable location that could contribute to improved urban planning, security, and economic development.
”The designated area will help streamline the movement and accommodation of heavy vehicles while enhancing security and supporting development in the area,” the commissioner said.
Yei Town Payam Director Rose Doru Simbe welcomed the initiative, saying the new arrangement is expected to generate additional revenue for the county through vehicle parking and related services.
”The relocation will not only reduce congestion in the town but will also create an opportunity for the county to increase local revenue collection,” Simbe said.
The decision followed a joint inspection conducted by the county commissioner, senior security officials, and representatives of local communities to assess concerns related to traffic congestion, vehicle parking, and public safety within Yei town.
