More than 20 players and members of Atlabara Football Club in Yei have launched a community clean-up campaign aimed at promoting environmental sanitation and encouraging residents to keep Yei town clean.
The initiative saw team members clean public areas within Yei town as part of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of proper waste management and community responsibility.
Speaking during the exercise, the team leader of Atlabara FC Yei, Godigoda Moses, said maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that extends beyond the football club.
”Keeping Yei clean is not the responsibility of one group alone. Every resident has a role to play in ensuring our town remains clean and healthy,” he said.
Moses urged communities across Yei River County to properly dispose of waste and support efforts to improve sanitation, noting that a clean environment contributes to public health and enhances the image of the town.
One of the participants, Gloria Tumalu, described the clean-up campaign as an important initiative for the community’s well-being.
She called on residents, youth groups, businesses, and other well-wishers to participate in similar activities, saying collective action is essential to maintaining a healthy environment.
County authorities also used the occasion to remind residents against indiscriminate dumping of garbage along streets and in public places, warning that poor waste disposal can contaminate water sources, pollute the environment, and increase public health risks.
The clean-up campaign forms part of ongoing community efforts to promote environmental conservation, public hygiene, and civic responsibility in Yei River County.
