The Caretaker Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Gen. Louis Lobong Lojore, has assured aspirants contesting for the SPLM state chairmanship of security and protection while calling on them and their supporters to maintain peace and exercise political tolerance throughout the ongoing internal party process.
The governor made the assurance during a courtesy visit by SPLM chairmanship aspirant Cde—Nartisio Loluke Manir, at his Torit office on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Manir discussed the ongoing SPLM internal political exercise, describing it as a historic opportunity to strengthen democratic practices within the ruling party and contribute to the development of democracy in South Sudan.
He emphasised the importance of peaceful political participation, security and an environment in which all aspirants can freely engage in the process without fear or intimidation.
In response, Governor Lobong assured Manir that the state security organs were committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all participants in the political process.
He stressed that Eastern Equatoria remains safe and open to peaceful political activities, adding that all aspirants should be allowed to exercise their political rights in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect.
The governor further cautioned SPLM chairmanship aspirants and their supporters against making inflammatory statements, spreading divisive messages or engaging in activities that could incite communities during the ongoing political lobbying.
He urged all contestants to embrace peaceful competition, mutual respect, tolerance and party unity, emphasising that political differences should not be allowed to create divisions among communities.
Governor Lobong noted that competition for party leadership should contribute to strengthening internal democracy and the unity of the SPLM rather than creating hostility among its members and supporters.
The meeting comes amid ongoing internal political activities within the SPLM, as aspirants seek support for the party’s state chairmanship.
