The Catholic University of South Sudan (CATHUSS) St. John’s Yambio Campus has announced a scholarship program for outstanding and disciplined sports personalities as part of its 2026/2027 academic year admissions.
The scholarships, sponsored by the Patron of the university, Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, will be awarded to an undisclosed number of deserving students who have demonstrated excellence, discipline, and integrity in sports.
Speaking during the students’ orientation, Acting Director for Academic and Research Lino Nungo Michael said the initiative is intended to reward discipline and encourage talented young people to pursue higher education while continuing to promote positive values through sports.
According to the university, the scholarships will be awarded in three categories: the best and most disciplined football player of the year, honest female referees, and the best and most disciplined goalkeeper.
Michael said the scholarships reflect the university’s commitment to recognising both academic potential and good character.
“Our CATHUSS-St. John’s Yambio Campus teaches students, not course units,” Michael said, emphasising that the institution seeks to produce graduates who are morally upright, disciplined, and committed to serving society.
He encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year remain open.
The acting director also reminded new students that success at the university depends not only on paying tuition but also on maintaining discipline, honouring commitments, and respecting university regulations.
“Your tuition fees have brought you here, but what will maintain you here are the three virtues: discipline and respect, keeping your promises, and keeping time,” he said.
The Catholic University of South Sudan–St. John’s Yambio Campus was established in 2017 by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio and received its Certificate of No Objection from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology in 2019.
Located along Bakindo Road behind the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio Curia in Yambio, the university has expanded from three to five faculties with the introduction of the Faculty of Agricultural Science and the Faculty of Peace Studies and International Relations.
University officials say the sports scholarship initiative is part of broader efforts to promote academic excellence, discipline, and youth development by creating opportunities for talented athletes to pursue university education.
