South Sudan has appointed Congolese-Belgian tactician N’Sengi Biembe Christian as the new head coach of the senior national football team, the Bright Stars, as the country seeks to open a new chapter and strengthen its competitiveness on the international stage.
Biembe has reportedly signed an initial one-year contract, with an option for an extension depending on his performance with the national team.
The experienced coach is expected to earn approximately US$12,500 per month under the agreement.
His appointment comes as the Bright Stars look to build a stronger and more competitive national side capable of making progress in upcoming continental and international competitions.
Biembe brings experience from both club and international football, and his arrival is expected to provide fresh technical direction to the national team while supporting the continued development of South Sudanese football.
The new head coach is expected to officially begin his duties during the next FIFA international window, when the Bright Stars are scheduled to travel away to face Malawi before returning home to host Egypt next month.
The upcoming fixtures will provide Biembe with an early opportunity to assess the squad, establish his tactical approach and begin laying the foundation for his tenure.
South Sudan’s national football team, the Bright Stars, has been working to establish itself as a competitive force in African football since gaining independence and becoming a member of FIFA and CAF.
Despite producing talented players, the national team has faced challenges including limited resources, inconsistent preparations and difficulties maintaining sustained competitiveness against more established African footballing nations.
The appointment of Biembe is therefore seen as an important step in efforts to improve the team’s technical structure and results.
Biembe will now be tasked with building on the team’s existing strengths while identifying areas that require improvement, particularly in preparation, tactical organisation and player development.
His first matches against Malawi and Egypt are expected to attract significant attention as supporters look to see the direction the new coach will take the Bright Stars.
