Torit County authorities have delivered assorted emergency medical supplies to Haforere Village in Hiyala Payam following concerns over a shortage of medicines affecting residents, particularly children and pregnant women.
The drugs were delivered on Thursday by Torit County Caretaker Commissioner Eddy William Ponsiano, who said the emergency supplies were secured through the Eastern Equatoria State Ministry of Health, the Torit County Health Department, and health partners operating in the county.
The delivery comes after local women raised concerns about inadequate access to essential medicines and health services in Haforere, saying the shortage was placing vulnerable community members at greater risk.
According to the county authorities, the medicines are intended to treat common and minor illnesses affecting residents while providing immediate support to children and pregnant women in the area.
The supplies include Panadol, antimalarial capsules, and other medicines used to treat fever and common illnesses.
Commissioner Ponsiano said the intervention was aimed at addressing the community’s immediate health needs, while efforts continue to strengthen access to healthcare services in the affected areas.
The delivery follows a recent appeal by Haforere women, who called on authorities to address the shortage of medicines and improve access to healthcare facilities for women, children, and elderly people.
Residents have welcomed the emergency supplies but are expected to continue calling for sustained availability of medicines and improved health services to prevent recurring shortages.
