Magwi SPLM Secretary steps down, citing health challenges

By Ijoo Bosco

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Secretary for Magwi County, Comrade Ayella Anthony John, has resigned from his executive position, citing health-related challenges.

Ayella announced his resignation in a letter dated August 11, 2026, addressed to the SPLM Chairman of Magwi County. He said the decision was personal and was not linked to political disagreements or dissatisfaction with the county party leadership.

In the letter, Ayella said his health condition had prompted him to step aside from the county executive position and allow him to refocus his efforts on grassroots party activities.

Despite leaving the county-level leadership position, he reaffirmed his commitment to the SPLM and said he would continue supporting the party at the community level.

Ayella also apologised for any administrative inconvenience that may result from his resignation.

His letter was copied to several party structures, including the Assistant Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilisation, the Magwi County Secretariat, and the SPLM State Secretariat.

Ayella was appointed Magwi County SPLM Secretary on August 12, 2025, succeeding Cdr. Ochol Bosco Ongee, who had earlier been relieved of the position by then-Magwi County Commissioner Hon. Pole Pole Benjamin Olum.

The resignation now leaves the Magwi County SPLM Secretariat facing a leadership transition as the party prepares to determine Ayella’s successor.

This paper is unable to obtain a comment from the current Magwi County Commissioner, Hon. Lam Francis Gabriel, regarding the resignation and the expected administrative changes by press time.
