The launch of a new electrification project in Nimule is expected to boost business activity, improve public services, and support digital operations in the border town.
The project, launched on Friday by the South Sudan Electricity Corporation in partnership with Conex Energy Corp, is being implemented under the theme “Power Behind Progress”.
SSEC General Manager Joseph Kur Ajak said reliable electricity will benefit residents and businesses while strengthening essential services. He urged the community to protect and sustainably manage the infrastructure.
Nimule Mayor Caesar Langa Fuli welcomed the project, saying access to reliable power could improve livelihoods and create new opportunities for local businesses. He also called for the rehabilitation of the Nimule-Juba Road to complement the town’s economic development.
Officials from the South Sudan Revenue Authority said the electricity supply will help improve digital systems, including e-tax, surveillance, and electronic payment services that have been affected by the high cost of fuel.
Minister of Energy and Dams Moulana Agok Makur said the government remains committed to expanding electricity access across South Sudan, describing reliable power as a key foundation for economic growth and improved living standards.
The Nimule project is expected to strengthen public services, support investment, and position the border town for increased economic activity.
