SSRA sets September 15 deadline for August tax filing and payments

By Sabri Dibaco

The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has reminded taxpayers that September 15, 2026, is the deadline for filing and paying tax obligations relating to August.

The reminder was issued in a taxpayer notice dated September 7 and highlighted by the SSRA in a public communication on Tuesday.

According to the notice, the September 15 deadline covers monthly tax returns, quarterly filings and payments, as well as outstanding arrears arising from audits.

The notice was attributed to Angelo Aguot Deng, Commissioner for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, who urged taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations within the stipulated period.

The announcement is intended to give businesses and other taxpayers time to complete their filings and make the required payments before the deadline.

The SSRA has been pursuing measures aimed at improving tax compliance, revenue collection, and accountability as the government seeks to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation.

The revenue authority has also introduced measures requiring taxpayers with liabilities assessed in South Sudanese pounds to make payments through designated revenue collection banks rather than paying cash directly to revenue officers.

The authority said the measures are aimed at improving transparency and accountability in tax collection.

The SSRA’s efforts form part of broader reforms to strengthen South Sudan’s non-oil revenue system. In June 2026, the African Tax Administration Forum reported that the SSRA was working on institutional reforms and a transfer-pricing framework aimed at improving compliance, operational efficiency, and revenue administration.

South Sudan has historically relied heavily on oil revenues, making the strengthening of non-oil taxation an important part of efforts to improve the country’s public finances.

Previous government and development-partner initiatives have also emphasized the need to diversify revenue sources and establish a more transparent tax administration system.

Taxpayers are therefore expected to ensure that their August returns and payments are completed on or before September 15 to avoid falling into arrears or facing possible compliance measures.
