Vice President James Wani Igga has called for political dialogue and unity among SPLM members and other political parties.
Igga made the call on Saturday during the launch of SPLM membership registration for Greater Juba Blocks at Medan Zahra.
In a statement by his office press unit, Prof. Igga made the call while officiating the launch of the SPLM membership registration exercise for the Greater Juba Blocks at Medan Zahra in Juba.
“The First Deputy Chairman additionally called for dialogue among members of the party and with members of other political parties for the well-being of the country,” the statement partly read.
“He also warned and discouraged citizens and leaders from engaging in propaganda and lies and encouraged them to focus on peace and on delivering services to the people instead of dwelling on lies and division,” the statement continued.
The registration exercise was launched under the theme, “Strengthening the Party Through Unity, Registration, and Active Membership.”
Igga urged political leaders and citizens to reject propaganda and division, saying peace and national unity should remain national priorities.
He called on political actors to embrace dialogue as South Sudan prepares for general elections and faces important political challenges.
The SPLM First Deputy Chairman also urged party members to remain disciplined, united, and committed as the country moves toward elections.
He encouraged young people and women to register in large numbers and participate actively in the country’s political process.
Igga emphasised the importance of focusing on service delivery rather than political divisions that could undermine peace and national unity.
Emmanuel Adil Anthony, governor of Central Equatoria State and SPLM chairperson in the state, also urged members to remain united.
Adil reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening unity within the SPLM and ensuring the party remains cohesive across Central Equatoria State.
He called on party members to work together and avoid divisions that could weaken the party’s structures and political activities.
The governor said unity among members would be essential as the SPLM strengthens its organisation and prepares for the upcoming elections.
He further encouraged members to actively participate in the registration exercise and strengthen the party from the grassroots level.
The membership registration exercise aims to establish the number of SPLM members across the country and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.
Party officials say the exercise will help update membership records and support preparations for the upcoming general elections.
The Greater Juba registration launch marks part of a wider SPLM effort to mobilise members and strengthen party structures nationwide.
The party is targeting existing members, supporters, youth, and women as registration activities expand to different parts of South Sudan.
Igga’s message comes as political parties continue discussions on the country’s political future and preparations for the electoral process.
He stressed that unity and discipline within the SPLM would be important as the party organises its members ahead of elections.
Adil echoed the call, emphasising the need for members in Central Equatoria to remain united and committed to strengthening party structures.
The two leaders urged members to prioritise peace, unity, and constructive political engagement as South Sudan moves toward elections.
The registration campaign is expected to provide the SPLM with updated information about its membership and strengthen its organisational capacity.
The party says active membership will be important in building stronger structures and preparing supporters for participation in the elections.
As registration continues, the SPLM leadership is calling on citizens to participate peacefully and contribute to the country’s political process.
The exercise is expected to continue across the country as the party works to establish its membership base before elections.
