EDUCATION: Yei records 56% pass rate in 2026 P.8 and ALP mock exams

By James Innocent

‎A total of 1,066 out of 1,904 candidates who sat the 2026 Primary Eight (P.8) and Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) mock examinations in Yei River County have been recorded as having passed, giving an overall pass rate of 56%.

‎The figures were announced by Philip Taban, Director of Education for Yei River County, based on results contained in an official declaration issued by his office.

‎The results, dated 18 September 2026, cover candidates from 52 primary schools and seven ALP centres across the county.

‎Of the 1,904 candidates, 1,015 were boys, and 889 were girls. ‎The results show that 593 boys passed, while 422 failed. Among the girls, 473 passed, and 416 failed.

‎Overall, 1,066 candidates passed, and 838 failed, representing 56% and 44%, respectively. ‎Based on the number of candidates in each group, the pass rate was approximately 58.4% for boys and 53.2% for girls.

‎The results were contained in an official declaration from the Office of the County Education Director addressed to the County Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Batali Henry Malimbo.

‎The mock examinations are intended to help assess candidates’ preparedness ahead of the formal examinations.

‎The results therefore provide an indication of performance in the mock assessment and should not be interpreted as the results of the national examinations.

‎The education authorities did not provide further analysis in the results declaration on differences in performance among individual schools, ALP centres or between boys and girls.

‎Hillary Lokudu, Executive Director of Yei River County, commended teachers for their efforts in supporting pupils and candidates throughout the academic year.

‎The results announcement was attended by parents, county authorities, and other education stakeholders in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State, on Tuesday.
