Abyei Municipality-UNISFA partner in drainage repairs

In an effort to improve public health and urban infrastructure, authorities in Abyei municipality have intensified repair services on the drainage and walkway systems across residential blocks.

The drainage work carried out in partnership with the Vietnamese engineering unit of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on July 26th, 2025, aimed at eliminating stagnant water and enhancing mobility.

The initiative targeted long-standing drainage issues that have contributed to water stagnation and related health concerns in the area underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing local infrastructure challenges.

Mayor Ajang Kuol Dau commended the Vietnamese engineers for their swift response and technical expertise.

“Their involvement has been invaluable and underscores a strong commitment to improving the infrastructure of Abyei,” he said.

He further emphasized the municipality’s determination to ensure that the project is completed. “This initiative will continue until every residential block within Abyei Municipality is completely free from stagnant water,” he stated.

“The maintenance of the drainage and walkway systems will be conducted with meticulous care, ensuring that the facilities function properly and serve the community effectively.” He added

The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the improvements and called on community members to support the effort through responsible usage and reporting of issues.
